International Program Student Forum: Teaching Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Collaboration with Swedish Vasaskolan IV

In collaboration with the Swedish Vasaskolan IV Student Forum, we conducted a program to teach students about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During the SDGs student forum on May 5th, students from Taiwan and Sweden presented the outcomes of their online discussions and proposed actionable solutions to environmental sustainability issues. Prior to the event, the embassy representative from Sweden and the principal of ZZSH encouraged students to remain vigilant about climate change and environmental sustainability. They expressed their hope for continued academic cooperation between the two countries in the future.

The forum focused on the theme of "Climate Change and Its Impacts." It covered various topics such as global warming, plastic reduction, the urban heat island effect, eutrophication, seawater acidification, and greenwashing. The environmental crises discussed, including sea level rise and flooding resulting from global warming, the urban heat island effect caused by air pollution, eutrophication of lake water due to water pollution, and the ecological imbalance caused by seawater acidification, are all closely related to Taiwan. The students not only analyzed the current situation using charts but also proposed solutions from different perspectives, including political regulations, education and awareness campaigns, energy conservation and carbon reduction, as well as greening and resource reuse.

Through the collaborative teaching of the SDGs course this semester, students from Taiwan and Sweden have gained insights into the various factors contributing to environmental crises and have learned how to contribute to environmental sustainability. The exchange and cooperation between the two countries have also allowed ZZSH students to broaden their international horizons and witness global efforts to mitigate climate change.
