Learning math with our local teacher and the Moreton Bay College teacher has been a meaningful intercultural class. The topic of the second online math class is “Time Zone”, which relates to last week’s lesson regarding distances on the Earth's surface. In the online class, Mr. Brendan Miles first gives the students from Class 118 an entry ticket to review how to calculate the distances between two cities based on coordinates. He then introduces the concept of time zones. He also asked the students questions about Greenwich Mean Time and the International Date Line through a world map, which made math more accessible to the students. He concludes the whole online math lesson by guiding the students to explore the time differences between two locations on the Earth according to the latitude and longitude. In a nutshell, from the students’ perspectives, math is no longer a subject but one of the approaches to understand the world.
